Water Systems
The La Mision Children's Fund has installed and maintains clean, reverse osmosis/Ultraviolet water systems at 3 of our area schools. The water system at the high school has been designated as the only pure water in the event of a natural disaster. That system will produce 70 gallons of pure water a day into a 500-gallon tank. The other 2 schools have the same systems but smaller holding tanks. We also provided smaller units to 2 Tijuana orphanages and the local community health center.
Medical
We have been the distribution point for donated used medical devices including Wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, support bandages even glasses at no cost to the recipient. We provide funding for a part-time Psychologist who works in the high school and junior high school. In addition, we assist volunteer tutors in all of the schools.
School Breakfast
Recently the high school added an entire, Santa Rosa, community when their school closed. Many of the new students were experiencing a lack of concentration and a lack of attention. The school psychologist within a week determined that 5 of the 7 new students were coming to school without any breakfast and also had nothing to eat at noon. That was not an isolated issue. hunger was a problem with 10 to 15% of all students. We now are providing breakfast tokens for burritos to the administrative staff to give to 10 to 15 students daily. Attitudes positively changed, attention spans greatly increased and concentration improved. We are committed to education but hunger can make it impossible. At least at one school that issue is solved but we have 2 more that likely have the same problem. Please donate.
