BECA Scholarship Program

BECA, which is Spanish for Scholarship, began in 1995 with the goal of supporting education for students in Santa Anita, La Mision and Santa Rosa in Northern Baja. Education not only changes the life of a student it also changes the lives of the family and the community. For instance, one of our 100+ BECA University graduates lives in La Mision and teaches second grade.

From 5th grade forward educators identify motivated students. A student with at least an 8.5 out of 10 gpa and that needs financial assistance to stay in school is eligible for a scholarship. LMCF/BECA scholarships support students through University. For the 2024-2025 school year a total of 154 students are able to stay in school because of BECA scholarships.

La Mision High School graduates approximately 35 students a year with 70% applying to university. The Principal has stated that “without LMCF/BECA’s financial support this couldn’t happen”. Recipients and their families are serious about University education. Students have two choices: The lucky ones live in Ensenada renting rooms with friends. Most have to commute. A few are able to ride share with friends. Most have a 45-to-60-minute bus and taxi trip one way to attend class.

The program does more than provide scholarships. We offer a Breakfast Program for extremely needy children, provide WIFI to schools and school supplies including toilet paper. We also provide clean drinking water systems to 3 schools, support building repairs and other school projects such as field trips and a part-time school psychologist. We do so much more than scholarships.

Every dollar you donate to LMCF/BECA goes directly to support local education.  We are an all-volunteer organization with minimal overhead costs.

We invite you to join our team as a volunteer, enjoy the fun at our annual FANDANGO fundraiser and become a donor with your monthly or one time donation. Whatever you chose to do, you will change lives for the better.
